How does GLP-1 help you lose weight?

GLP-1 is an injectable medication used to treat type 2 diabetes and for long-term weight management. Apneet Aesthetics uses a combination of compounded GLP-1 combined with B12 vitamin to help you lose weight.GLP-1 regulates appetite and decreases caloric intake. GLP-1 also slows down digestion in the stomach. GLP-1 increases insulin secretion thereby increasing sugar metabolism.

What side effects are associated with GLP-1?

The most common side effect associated with GLP-1 is nausea. Approximately 5% of patients administered GLP-1 developed nausea. The dosing of GLP-1 is critical to minimize side effects. Less common side effects noted include dyspepsia, constipation, diarrhea and fatigue. The majority of side effects significantly decrease by weeks 4-6. GLP-1 has also been associated ‘with a slight increase in gall stones (cholelithiasis) and low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) in type 2 diabetics who take insulin and medications known as sulfonylurea’s (Glyburide, Glimepiride, Glipizide).

Which patients should not take GLP-1 weight-loss?

Patients who are already on a GLP-1 for type 2 diabetes or weight-loss. Examples include, Trulicity, Ozempic, Wegovy, etc.

Which patients should not take GLP-1?

Patients with an unexplained history of inflammation of the pancreas (pancreatitis). Typical symptoms of pancreatitis include upper abdominal pain that can radiate to the back, and something vomiting. If these symptoms develop stop GLP-1 and seek care in an Emergency Department. Patient’s with a known history of allergic reaction to GLP-1 should not take GLP-1. Patient’s who are pregnant or plan to become pregnant within 2 months should not take GLP-1. Patient’s who are breast feeding should not take GLP-1. Patient’s with a personal history of or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC) or in patients with a personal history of or family histiry of Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2) should not take GLP-1.
